Scalp is the preferred donor site for hair transplantation but sometimes the number of grafts available in scalp are less than the requirement. In these cases, beard is a very good option for additional harvest of grafts.
Scalp : 1 to 5 hair follicles are there in a single graft of scalp. Average 2.5 follicular units are there in a single graft. We use ultrafine imported punches of 0.8mm for extracting the grafts from the scalp. Sometimes 0.7mm punchs are used for the thinner grafts.
Beard : In Beard there are 1 to 2 hair follicles present in a single graft. Average 1.3 follicular units are there in a single graft. We use ultrafine imported punches of 0.7mm for extracting the grafts from the beard.
