Breast Augmentation Or Breast Implant
Augmentation mammoplasty, or breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase the size, shape or fullness of a woman’s breasts. Silicone or saline breast implants are placed under the chest muscles or breast tissue.
Breast enlargement surgery is known by many names: breast augmentation, breast enhancement, mammoplasty or just simply “a boob job”. It is one of the most regularly performed procedures in the World, and usually involves the insertion of implants under the breast tissue.
This will increase the size and/or change the shape of your breasts.
You can rest assured that, at Transform, a breast enlargement is not only a commonly performed procedure, but it will also be carried out by a highly experienced.
Why is a Breast Augmentation Required?
Breast augmentation is done to:
➞ Enlarge breasts that are naturally small.
➞ Restore breast size and shape after pregnancy, weight loss or breastfeeding.
➞ Restore symmetry when the breasts are asymmetrical
➞ Restore the breast(s) after surgery as treatment for breast cancer or some other condition or event that affected the size and shape of the breast.
How is the procedure done?
The procedure is done under Local or General Anaesthesia; however, General is preferred over the Local Anaesthesia. Incisions are made on or near the breast in a minimally visible area to maintain cosmetic appearance. Breast Implants are placed either below the Pectoralis Muscle or directly below the breast tissue. The incised area is sutured aesthetically to achieve minimal scarring.
What are Breast Implants?
A breast implant is a medical prosthesis that is placed inside the breast to augment, reconstruct or create the physical form of the breast. The outer layer of breast implants is made of firm silicone. The inside of the implant is filled either with salt water (saline solution), silicone gel, or a composite of alternative substances. There are 2 main types of breast implants:
Saline Implants
➞ These implants can be filled with different amounts of saline solution, which may affect the feel, firmness and shape of the breast.
Silicone Implants
➞ filled with a viscous silicone gel which is held within an elastomer silicone shell.
How is breast augmentation surgery performed?
Breast augmentation surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes incisions in specific locations, such as around the areola (periareolar), in the breast crease (inframammary), or in the armpit (transaxillary). The implants are then inserted either behind the breast tissue or behind the chest muscle. The incisions are closed with sutures, and dressings or bandages are applied.
Can breast augmentation affect breastfeeding or mammograms?
Breast augmentation generally does not prevent women from being able to breastfeed. However, it’s important to note that breast surgery can potentially affect milk production and the ability to breastfeed. Breast implants can also make it more challenging to interpret mammogram results. It’s recommended to inform your healthcare providers about your breast implants to ensure proper interpretation of mammograms and other breast imaging tests.

Even if you’ve not experienced any problems, we recommend getting your implants checked over by a surgeon around 10 years after your surgery to make sure everything’s still okay.

Yes, many women choose to combine the two procedures and have a breast lift at the same time as their enlargement. Surgeons may recommend this if your breasts have lost volume and you want to lift them, while also increasing the size.

The standard for the youngest age for breast implants to be considered is 18 years old. The breast augmentation age limit is to ensure that breasts have fully grown and developed naturally before any surgery is undertaken.

You may be able to return home on the same day that you have your surgery, but many of our patients require or prefer an overnight stay in one of our dedicated hospitals. We’ll discuss what we think is best with you before we book your breast augmentation surgery, so you know what to expect on the day.
How will getting pregnant affect my Breast Implants?
Pregnancy affects breasts with implants in the same way that it affects breasts without them. This means that if you gain a lot of weight during pregnancy, the skin of the breast can stretch, and sagging may occur afterwards.
