What Is It?
Breast reduction surgery (reduction mammoplasty) reduces the size of the breasts for women who have uneven or uncomfortably large breasts. The procedure removes excess fat, glandular tissue and skin and, where required, reshapes the breasts to create a smaller, more manageable size and a lifted contour. Women often consider breast reduction for chronic back, neck and shoulder pain, deep grooves from bra straps, restricted activity, difficulty with sports or finding well-fitting swimwear and clothing, or self-image concerns. Most women who undergo breast reduction are very satisfied with the results, and men with conditions such as gynecomastia may also benefit from a similar procedure. The ideal breast size is highly personal — depending on weight, height, shoulder and hip width, as well as personal preference — and is fully discussed in your consultation.

The Procedure
01 Planning & Hospital Admission
The procedure is performed in a hospital setting with about a 2-day admission. General anaesthesia is used and the surgery takes around 3–4 hours.
02 Tissue Removal & Reshaping
An incision is made around the nipple and downward on the breast in a keyhole pattern. Excess skin, tissue and fat are removed, the nipple is repositioned and the breast is reshaped.
03 Closure & Support
The surgeon may use drainage tubes, then closes the incisions with stitches and wraps the breasts in special gauze. A surgical bra is worn to support the new shape during healing.
