Thread Lift

A revolution is underway, for the problems caused by facial skin laxity- like loss of definition along the jawline, sagging in the mid-face and drooping in the brow or eye area. You will feel great to know that there is a new procedure which is developed to fill the gap between noninvasive facial rejuvenation and facelift surgery that is “Thread Lift”.

Know about thread lift

Thread lift is a procedure in which temporary sutures are used to build a subtle but noticeable “lift” in the skin.

Instead of removing the patient’s loose facial skin surgically, the cosmetic surgeon simply suspends it by stitching up portions of it. This has the effect of pulling the skin back slightly and therefore lifting and tightening the face. In addition to being ideal for lifting the skin, threads combat aging in another way: by provoking the body’s “healing response” and causing the body to direct large surges of collagen to treated areas. This is important because of the vital role collagen plays in the aging process.

What are the advantages of having a thread lift instead of a facelift?

For many patients, the biggest advantage of having a thread lift rather than a facelift is the greatly reduced recovery time associated with thread lifts. Thread lifts can be performed under local, rather than general anesthesia, meaning that thread lift patients can drive themselves home and look after themselves immediately after having their procedure. While some patients will experience a little bit of soreness, redness and swelling after having a thread lift and therefore wish to take the rest of the day off, most can return to work immediately. Strong pain medication is seldom needed after having a thread lift, making it easier for patients to return to their normal routine. This procedure is therefore ideal for people who have children at home or those who have busy, demanding careers.

Facial ageing such as loss of definition along the jawline, sagging in the mid-face and drooping in the brow or eye area, can all be greatly improved by this treatment. The thread lift can be the perfect solution for those that are just noticing these visible signs of ageing or are unsure or unable to undergo more invasive facial rejuvenation surgery at this time.

Threads made of polylactic acid are inserted into the dermis, producing an instant lifting effect as well as stimulating collagen remodeling to further tighten the skin as well as smooth out deep lines and wrinkles over the following weeks. Skin appears more youthful and rejuvenated. Polylactic acid has been used in medicine for many years and is completely biodegradable so the body just naturally absorbs the threads over time.

Thread Lift Procedure

The application of the thread is practically non-invasive and painless. It takes about 50 minutes, leaves no scarring or cuts and the slight redness usually disappears within a few days. First, the area to be treated is injected with local anesthetic. The PDO thread is inserted using a cannula or a micro-needle into the required area. The threads trigger a skins rejuvenation process -producing new collagen, which helps to; lift and tighten the skin, smooth the wrinkles, shrink the pores and enhance the volume, giving a more youthful appearance to your skin.

The patient is able to fully resume their everyday routine and social commitments within a couple of days. PDO Therapy is a tailor-made treatment, which can be adjusted to individual needs at any time.

How long does a thread lift last?

Threads are dissolved slowly and predictably. Results are individual; however, they tend to last up to 2 years.

What is thread lift?

Thread lift is a treatment which lifts and tightens sagging skin tissues using threads of Polydioxanone for Face & Neck.  The threads are introducing into the deep layer of the skin as mechanical lifting. Cellular renewal through collagen stimulation and neovascularization to improve skin texture, fine lines and elasticity.

thread lift – Frequently Asked Questions

Is thread lift right for me?

A thread lift is best suited to men and women who have begun to notice the visible signs of facial ageing as a result of the loss of collagen, but still have relatively good skin elasticity. Typically, they are not ready to undergo more invasive surgery at this point, although our consultant plastic surgeon Dr. Ashit Gupta can advise them as to whether a thread lift will achieve the results they are hoping for or whether surgery would be more appropriate at this point. A thread lift is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women or patients that suffer from certain auto-immune diseases or conditions that cause problems with blood clotting.

How does a thread lift compare to face lift?

A thread lift is a minimally-invasive procedure with little to no downtime and less potential risks and side effects compared to a surgical facelift. However, this does mean that results are not as long-lasting, and a thread lift may not be able to address significant ageing concerns.

What can a non-surgical face lift treat?

A thread lift can lift the mid-face area which tends to sag and flatten as we age, creating folds around the nose and mouth. Dr. Ashit Gupta will often combine a thread lift with temporary dermal fillers which can restore lost volume. As we age, we also experience loss of definition along the jawline, causing jowls to form. A thread lift can tighten and lift the jawline and neck.

How does a thread lift work?

The threads are inserted into the dermis using a very fine cannula, instantly lifting the skin. They also stimulate the body’s natural healing response, so over the following weeks and months, collagen remodeling occurs. The skin becomes smoother, tighter and more rejuvenated and results appear very natural. The polylactic acid fibers will then just naturally dissolve, but you’ll experience the benefits of a thread lift for a number of years before deciding whether to undergo a repeat treatment or explore the option of a surgical facelift.

Are there any side effects to thread lift?

You may experience some slight swelling and bruising where the threads were inserted and there may be a small amount of bruising in the following days. This will disappear relatively quickly and there is no real downtime after a thread lift procedure, so you’ll be able to resume normal activities immediately after. We do advise no strenuous activity or exercise for the first week or so. There is little to no scarring after a thread lift as a very fine needle is used to insert the threads in the skin.

What results can I expect after facial thread lift?

A thread lift produces a very natural facelift and is a fantastic option for those that do not want the downtime of a surgical procedure and prefer a more subtle rejuvenation. You’ll see an immediate enhancement, but those results will continue to visibly improve time and can last from 18 months to three years.

Are there any complications associated with thread lifts?

Thread lifts are a relatively safe procedure with few complications. However, it is important to be treated at a reputable clinic by an aesthetic practitioner who knows what they are doing and have a thorough understanding of the anatomy of the face. Sometimes threads can migrate out of the skin and this then needs to be removed.
