What is body Hair transplant?
Hairs from the head area are generally used for transplantation purposes. However patients sometimes do not have enough hair on their heads to achieve the desired result. In such cases it is possible to transplant body hairs, as such hairs are very similar to head hairs in structure and quality. Hairs may be taken from the legs, the arms, the stomach, the chest, the back, the armpits or even the face. Even beard hairs may under certain circumstances be used.
Alternatively, men interested in getting a defined beard can also undergo body hair transplant to the beard to get what they want.
What are the advantages of Body Hair Transplant?
Body hair transplant have been tried and tested for long with exceptional results. You may not be able to differentiate a person who has received body hair transplant and the person with Scalp Hair Transplant. The advantages of body hair transplant are:
➞ When scalp donor is exhausted or limited, body hairs can be used to increase the hair density on the scalp.
➞ Since the body has large reserves of hair, more hair can be harvested from chest, beard, armpit, thighs etc
➞ It is a better choice for eyebrow reconstruction where one can have better matching hairs then the fast growing thick scalp hair
Is there any difference between conventional FUE and BHT FUE?
No, there is no difference in the techniques of both the procedures. The technique for transplanting body hair is derived from the FUE technique, and basically involves extending the donor area to the whole body. BHT is used primarily in cases where the donor area on the head is no longer suitable for the extraction of donor material or is not dense enough.
Almost twice as many implants are needed to obtain the natural looking hair density when BHT is undertaken. To make it more understandable- 60 FUs (Follicular Units- of hair) per cm² of body hair lead to a hair density of 60 - 70 hairs per cm², whereas 60 FUs per cm² of head hair result in a density of 90 - 120 hairs per cm². So the number of FU taken is twice as much as taken fron the scalp.
When does the hair begin growing?
The transplanted hair generally shed within 2 to 6 weeks after the surgery as roots enter in resting phase. Within three to eight months, transplanted roots start sprouting hair. It takes ten to twelve months to have denser hair as hair continue to mature and thicken gradually. Once transplanted hair begin to grow, it will continue to do so for lifetime.
What is biostimulated FUE?
It comprises of hair transplantation by FUE along with 3 sessions of Platelet rich plasma therapy which simultaneously enhance residual hairs as well as transplanted hairs by presence of high concentration of growth factors directly near the hair roots and stimulation of STEM CELLS.
In this hair follicles to be transplanted are preserved in a special solution enriched with patient's own growth factors and at the end of surgery this concentrated solution of growth factors is injected into the whole affected area.
With biostimulation, a good proportion of transplanted hairs remain in growth phase (ANAGEN) and directly start growing after transplantation.
